Madison, Wis. – Sixty-one years after being present when a terrible telegram arrived at her grandparents’ home, Judy Corfield walked onto the Camp Randall Stadium field with Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez at halftime of the Badgers’ 41-9 victory over Northwestern on Saturday.
She was wearing her uncle’s musty but well-preserved letter sweater.
After joining the crowd in watching a video tribute to her uncle, an All-American hero, she looked up at the stadium’s upper-deck facade. A red banner was peeled away, exposing a number and name.
