A Madison scholar who devoted his life to the study and teaching of black history died Nov. 1 at the age of 71.
Zachary L. Cooper researched the history of blacks in Wisconsin for the Wisconsin Historical Society, served as a professor and lecturer at UW- Madison, and was a mentor within the black community, founding Project JAMAD (Jamaica-Madison Cultural Exchange).
