Universities in the state, especially ones with large international student populations, were early to recognize and plan for the impact of COVID-19. As the outbreak spread internationally, it has affected students in study abroad programs, with some having to cancel their studies and return home. Meanwhile, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, scientists are commencing research on the virus in collaboration with the state hygiene lab and other researchers elsewhere.
