News::Down to Earth: An Idea Sinks In

There’s a way to perhaps slow down flooding and help the environment at the same time. A couple of projects in Madison feature porous pavement. It’s basically concrete or asphalt that has large spaces in it so water can fall through.

We looked at a test patch that was installed at UW-Madison about a year ago. The porous asphalt eats the water. Layers of gravel underneath eventally soak it up.
