A case in point is British-born economic geographer Jamie Peck, who will take up his appointment as a Tier One Canada Research Chair in Urban and Regional Political Economy at the University of British Columbia next summer. He will continue his research on the impact of market-oriented policies on employment, welfare and urban economic development.
The globe-trotting, 45-year-old academic has held fellowships at academic institutions on four continents and currently is based at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the United States. One of the most cited human geographers of his generation, Professor Peck last year won a prestigious U.S. Guggenheim Fellowship that gives leading scholars a sabbatical at a university of their choice.
