On the Near West Side, newcomer Ellen Zhang cruised to victory in District 8, defeating fellow UW-Madison student Bobby Gronert 1,677 votes to 401. Zhang had been endorsed by Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway and outgoing council member MGR Govindarajan.
