John E. “Jack” Mitchell passed away on Aug. 30, 2008, at the HospiceCare Center in Madison. In 1956 Jack joined the UW-Madison faculty as an assistant professor of plant pathology. He was eventually promoted to associate and then full professor and served as chairman of the Department from 1975-1980.
