Six-year-old Mack was introduced as the rookie in an elite police squad: the Madison Police Department Mounted Patrol Unit. Mack managed to look mellow and alert at the same time, qualities that have already endeared the equine unit to residents, tourists, denizens and even wobbly drunks on State Street.
