In order to allow for more time to tweak a measure that would change the Downtown apartment rental season, the City Council voted to refer it to their Oct. 19 meeting late Tuesday night. At issue is a measure that would move back the period when landlords can start showing and leasing occupied apartments for next year?s rental cycle to the third week in January. Currently, landlords are allowed to begin showing and leasing after 25 percent of the current lease has expired, which falls on or near Nov. 15.Alds. Verveer and Bridget Maniaci, 2nd District, who sponsored the measure, amended the language from 25 to 45 percent in the referred measure.
