Clean up: Trade in your old gas can

Did Earth Day get you down this year? Maybe make you feel a bit overwhelmed at the thought of doing anything at all that will save the world from global warming or invasive species or Hummers?

Well, cheer up.

Here’s something simple you can do that will make a difference — trade in your old gas can for one that is more environmentally friendly.

In a program sponsored by Dane County Clean Air Coalition, about 3,500 of the new gas cans — designed to keep gas from spilling — will be made available free to the public on June 11.

The plan was announced Friday, Earth Day, between two gas pumps at a Shell service station on University Avenue. It’s being funded, to the tune of $20,000, by UW-Madison, Dane County, the city of Madison and Briggs & Stratton Co.
