When talk turns to nature and the environment, it doesn?t take long for people to invoke the name of Aldo Leopold. His seminal book, “A Sand County Almanac,” is still regularly assigned in high school and college ecology courses.
And especially in Wisconsin, it?s not uncommon for Leopold?s legacy to be injected into issues as varied as a local zoning fight or the size of the state?s deer herd. But for many, Leopold?s ideas are not well understood – beyond some vague notion that we all should be stewards of the environment.A new film, “Green Fire” – the first full-length documentary of Leopold – details his ideas and how he influenced modern environmentalism.
