The request the UW System will put forward for $107.5 million in new state funding over the next two years — $82.5 million in “outcomes-based” funding and $25 million to expand programs mostly in STEM and high-demand fields — is framed around “university and statutorily required goals.”
The University of Wisconsin System is asking for $107 million more in state money, three-quarters of which would be outcome-based, rewarding or punishing campuses based on how well they meet performance metrics such as student access, progress toward degree completion, “workforce contributions” and operating efficiencies.

While the top private schools list is dominated by northeast schools, the top public schools come from all different regions: eight from the South, eight from the West, four from the Midwest and five from the Northeast. Hailing from the South is the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (No. 9), the University of Florida (No. 13), the University of Texas, Austin (No.16), Georgia Institute of Technology (No. 20), and the University of Georgia (No. 23). The Midwest is represented by the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (No. 11) and the University of Wisconsin, Madison (No. 17).
System leaders released their 2019-2021 budget request Monday. The Board of Regents is scheduled to vote on the request Thursday during a meeting at UW-Madison. Approval would send the request on to Gov. Scott Walker’s office for consideration as he begins work on his executive budget.

UW System leaders won’t seek any tuition or student fee increases in the next state budget but will consider asking Gov. Scott Walker for an additional $107 million in state aid to help meet Republican-imposed performance goals and increase access to high-demand programs.
University of Wisconsin wide receiver Quintez Cephus was charged with two counts of sexual assault Monday. Per reports, police claim the 20-year-old junior, who was set to be the Badgers’ top receiver this season, assaulted two women on the same night at his apartment.
UW-Madison responded to criminal charges that were filed Monday against Badgers football player Quintez Cephus, saying they view allegations of sexual assault “with deep concern.”
UW also released a statement that said while they are unable to comment on a specific case due to Chapter 17 of the UW System Administrative Code, the Title IX Program in the Office of Compliance has the authority to conduct a “formal impartial investigation into the allegations.”
Junior receiver Quintez Cephus, who announced he is taking an indefinite leave of absence from the Badgers football team Saturday, has now been formally suspended from the team for a violation of the Student-Athlete Discipline Policy, according to a Monday afternoon statement from UW Athletic Director Barry Alvarez.
University of Wisconsin wide receiver Quintez Cephus was charged Monday with second- and third-degree sexual assault of two intoxicated women who said he sexually assaulted both of them, and said that Cephus and his roommate, teammate Danny Davis, laughed and took photos of the women, according to a criminal complaint.
