Two Republican lawmakers aim to restrict how much the University of Wisconsin System can increase tuition if and when the undergraduate resident tuition freeze set to enter its seventh year is lifted.
One Republican state representative is championing legislation that would set up a contingency plan if Wisconsin’s freeze on in-state undergraduate tuition goes away — a move he says could alter the discussion about lifting the freeze going forward.
Starting this fall, the Chazen Museum of Art will be open for 84 hours a week — an increase of 36 hours from its current schedule — which UW-Madison says will make it the “most open” in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
On Wednesdays, UW veterinary residents visit the center to consult on trickier cases and perform surgeries.

An explosion and fire around 7:40 a.m. Friday sent a plume of thick, black smoke rising over the city’s east side. A second fire Friday morning at the East Campus substation near the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus also sent a cloud of black smoke into the air and caused police to evacuate Ogg and Smith halls and the UW Safety Building.
