University of Wisconsin-Madison Director of Admissions and Recruitment André Phillips said so far the number of prospective students confirming admission offers is close to where they were in 2019.
The mapping team initially used data from a crowd-sourced tracker of county-level cases and validated them with estimates from state health departments. The researchers have since incorporated data from several other sources, and they are partnering with their colleagues at the University of Wisconsin–Madison to authenticate that information.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison declared on March 26 that the “unprecedented situation” called for a pass/fail grading option. Allowing the option means other academic policies may have to adjust, too, the school said.
Starting Aug. 1, 2020, all prospective students, including new freshmen, transfer students, international students and non-traditional students, will be able to use the EApp.
The EApp will provide reduced application fees, offer easier navigation, and allow first-time undergraduate applicants to apply to more than one UW System school using a single application.
A University of Wisconsin doctor and her husband were killed Tuesday in an apparent homicide, police said.
Dr. Beth Potter, 52, a family medicine physician, and her husband, Robin Carre, 57, died from “homicidal related trauma,” the medical examiner’s office said in a statement.

“I was genuinely afraid I would fall asleep and not wake up,” 22-year-old Amy Shircel said.
Wisconsin has received its second shipment of personal protective equipment for health care and EMS workers.
“I thought I was going to die,” Shircel said. “I was like, ‘I’m going to fall asleep and I’m not going to wake up because I’m just too sick.’”

New America published a new report that makes a series of recommendations for anticipating and managing precipitous college closures. The brief was co-authored by experts from New America, WASC Senior College and University Commission, State Higher Education Executive Officers Association, Southern New Hampshire University, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
“For a lot of my cohort members and I, it sucked, because we didn’t realize on that Friday (March 13) it was going to be the last time we’d see our students face-to-face,” said Emily Strehlow, a University of Wisconsin-Madison student who is student teaching at Lincoln Elementary School in Madison. “It all happened so fast that we were in a state of shock and confusion.”
