When U.S. Paralympic sled hockey goaltender Steve Cash heard of the death of Jeff Sauer last month, he said one of the toughest realizations was that he could never make his coach proud again. Cash was one of many who spoke Thursday of their appreciation for Sauer at a celebration of the former University of Wisconsin men’s hockey coach’s life at the Kohl Center.
