Doug Moe: At 94, some cheers for the woman who studied field goals and slap shots

In 1979, Betty Roberts supervised two undergraduate UW-Madison students who convinced hockey star Mark Johnson to participate in their study of the slap shot. Other press reports, dating back to the 1960s, credit Roberts ? today an emeritus professor of physical education at UW-Madison ? and her graduate students with research that helped launch the proliferation of ?soccer style? placekickers in American football.
