Groups re-evaluate ties to Suzy Favor Hamilton after shocking admission

The UW-Madison School of Education has worked with Favor Hamilton for “several years” in a one-week summer camp to encourage middle school-age students to pursue college, Associate Dean Dawn Crim said. Favor Hamilton had been scheduled to lead the “Movin? Minds” camp in July. Her name was on the camp?s website Thursday, but by Friday it had been removed.

Physical abilities no match for UW-Madison researcher’s dreams

In spring 2011, UW-Madison researcher Craig Schuff had a lot going for him ? not the least of which was his work in the College of Engineering where he was on the verge of perfecting a much-anticipated device that can be used to detect explosives and even nuclear material in suspicious packages.

Today, after an accident in Lake Monona, Schuff is paralyzed from the neck down.

Apparently, the place to beat that trend is in the University of Wisconsin-Madison?s athletic stable. Departing head football coach Bret Bielema was making $2.7 million this year. Former coach and current Athletic Director Barry Alvarez was being paid a paltry-by-comparison $1 million. Now, UW regents have decided Alvarez will pocket a one-month salary increase of $118,500 for December as he takes over from Bielema to coach one game ? yes, one game ? at the Rose Bowl.

For a brief time Thursday night, it appeared the Wisconsin football program had lost its second assistant coach in less than a week: Offensive coordinator Matt Canada.
An ad for offensive coordinator / assistant football coach was posted on an NCAA website. However, according to UW officials, the posting was premature. All nine assistant positions will be posted by the end of Friday. The move is procedural because their contracts expire Feb. 3.

Nass supports UW non-resident policy deal

Rep. Steve Nass R-Whitewater, chairman of the Assembly Colleges and Universities Committee, is supporting a compromise on the number of non-residents that can be admitted annually to the UW system and a binding commitment that requires the University of Wisconsin-Madison to admit at least 3,500 Wisconsin high school graduates annually, according to a release from the legislators office.
