SSFC fines MCSC for policy violation

Every four years, professors from the art department step away from studios, critiques and syllabi and into the spotlight at an exhibition in the Chazen Museum of Art. The first faculty show to be exhibited in the new expansion is Compendium 2012: Art Department Faculty Exhibition. Opening with a preview reception Friday night, Compendium 2012 showcases the work of 34 current faculty and staff artists and 12 emeritus professors, spanning the temporary exhibition galleries in both the Chazen and Elvehjem buildings.

UW?s surgery dept. ranks highly for research funding

After receiving $5.8 million in funding from the National Institute of Health alone this past year, the University of Wisconsin?s Department of Surgery was recently ranked 12th among all academic surgery departments in the country for research dollars coming into the school from NIH.

UW tackling disaster preparedness

A planning team consisting of University of Wisconsin staff and consultants are in the middle of a two-year Federal Emergency Management Agency-funded grant to develop a Disaster-Resistant University plan for the Madison campus and outlying properties. One Injury After Accident At Chemistry Building On UW Campus

Madison, Wisconsin ? At 9:34 AM UW Madison Police Dispatchers received a 911 call about a small explosion that happened in a laboratory on the 6th floor of the UW Madison Chemistry Building. Officers from the UW Madison Police Department and Madison Fire Department responded to assist a UW Staff member who had been injured as a result of the explosion.

Chadima incident reminds us that all of campus must combat sexual assault

By now, everyone has heard that Senior Associate Athletic Director John Chadima resigned after he allegedly sexually assaulted a student employee at a Rose Bowl party. Quickly forgetting the fact that senior athletic officials, including Athletic Director Barry Alvarez, knew of other parties, the athletic department and university handled the situation well. An investigation was completed and released in a timely fashion, and offices are considering multiple alcohol policy changes.

P.E. cuts hurt UW-Madison

The additional $25.5 million UW-Madison will have to cut over the next two years is already having a major impact on campus, and one of the most tangible ways in which students will feel the cuts is the elimination of 29 for-credit physical education classes after 2012.

University of Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez issued a statement on Wednesday saying that he was disappointed in the “highly inappropriate behavior” of former athletic department official John Chadima and that he wasn?t aware beforehand of a party where Chadima was alleged to have inappropriately grabbed a student.
