A University of Wisconsin student fell from the top of a parking garage outside the Fluno Center Tuesday and died a short time after at a local hospital.

The UW football team�s slow and steady climb up the polls took an impressive step this week, as the Badgers (7-1 Big Ten, 10-1 overall) used former national-title hopefuls Louisville, Texas, Auburn and California as footholds in their ascent to No. 9 in the Bowl Championship Series rankings. The ranking is Wisconsin�s highest in exactly two years�UW was also No. 9 in the Nov. 14, 2004 BCS poll.

Union upgrades stand after lawsuit dismissed

The Associated Students of Madison Student Judiciary dismissed a complaint Monday that would overturn the passing of the Student Union Initiative, and petitioners said it is unlikely they will appeal the decision.

Ozaukee County Board restores Barrett protest money

The Ozaukee County Board voted Wednesday to restore $8,427 to a program within UW Extension, an arm of the University of Wisconsin devoted to serving Wisconsin community members, including children and continuing adult learners.

The Board cut the amount from the program in August to protest UW-Madison�s hiring of Kevin Barrett, the lecturer who made news recently due to his controversial views that the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks were an inside job orchestrated by the U.S. government.

As support for the University from the State of Wisconsin continues to wane, resulting in hefty increases in tuition, the University of Wisconsin Foundation is challenged to increase gift support for need-based student financial aid. Contrary to the beliefs of some, the Foundation receives very little unrestricted support that can be channeled to this purpose. Donors invariably designate their gifts for specific goals and activities.

Cows help UW hospitals

Though downtown Madison feels a little empty without 101 fiberglass cows grazing its sidewalks, proceeds from a live auctioning of the bovines will help fund a new children�s hospital on the University of Wisconsin campus.
