The University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department said an officer responded to a report of a truck swerving and running stoplights at 2:20 a.m. The officer spotted the truck at Monroe Street and Woodrow Street and attempted to stop the driver.

Driver arrested after high-speed pursuit

According to the UW-Madison Police Department, a UWPD officer was responding to a report of a truck swerving and running stoplights at approximately 2:20 a.m. The driver would not stop and took officers on a chase that lasted more than 20 minutes. At times, the driver reached speeds that exceed 100 miles per hour.

Finding a cure for Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’s Diseases

UW-Madison hands over sexual assault files from last three years as part of federal investigation

The investigations are being handled by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights. Federal investigators have asked UW-Madison for all of their files regarding sexual assault cases and policies from 2012 to 2014. Investigators are trying to get a better sense of how the university handles sexual violence cases on campus.

UW men’s basketball clinches outright Big Ten Championship

Following its 76-63 victory at Minnesota on Thursday, Wisconsin clinched its first outright Big Ten Championship since the 2007-08 season. The Badgers, who captured a share of the title last Sunday, have won 18 Big Ten Championships. With Thursday’s win, Wisconsin also secured the top seed in next week’s Big Ten Tournament.

Alvin “Al” Hovland

Hovland began his career teaching at U.W. Madison in the Physical Education Department. From 1957 – 1958, he served as assistant basketball coach under Coach Harold “Bud” Foster. Al directed the required and elective physical education programs for men as coordinator from 1960 – 1980. He retired in 1985 after 37 years in the department.

Pankowski named WCHA Rookie of the Year

Kaminsky, Ryan named Naismith semifinalists

Upcoming Supreme Court decision could impact thousands in Wisconsin

Noted: If the Supreme Court rules that tax subsidies only apply to states that operate their own health insurance exchange, more than 180,000 people in the state would lose financial assistance. And Donna Friedsam, the health policy programs director at the UW Population Health Institute, says that would, in all likelihood, mean people would not afford their health insurance plans.

UW System president offers performance-based model in exchange for guaranteed funding

The president of the UW System told the Joint Finance Committee (JFC) Tuesday he is open to performance-based funding based on a set of certain criteria. “Graduation rates – both four-year and six-year, number of degrees granted – total degrees, STEM degrees, retention rates – first to second year,” Cross told JFC members, listing off a total of eight standards.

UW fruit scientist says more research needed on non-browning apples

A UW crop scientist says it’s going to take the FDA’s blessing before you bite into the genetically modified fruit. Amaya Atucha, assistant professor of horticulture, says the browning is a natural phenomenon known as polyphenol oxidase. “When we cut the apple, the flesh is exposed to the oxygen and this enzyme reacts with the oxygen.” Dr. Atucha said.

Settle returns to round out Wisconsin Football coaching staff

Wisconsin head football coach Paul Chryst announced Tuesday that John Settle has been hired to coach the Badgers’ running backs. Settle, who spent last season coaching running backs at Pitt under Chryst, previously spent five seasons as the running backs coach at UW when Chryst served as offensive coordinator.
