Alcohol was “a significant contributing factor” in the Aug. 27 crash on Midvale Boulevard that killed three UW-Madison students, Dane County Coroner John Stanley said.
The driver, Milwaukee native Richard H. Putze, 22, had a blood alcohol level of 0.144 percent, nearly twice the 0.08 legal limit for drivers in Wisconsin. Stanley said Putze’s speed was also “extremely high,” but the actual speed has not yet been determined.
