The first police officers from both Madison and UW arrived on the scene around 1:00pm on Wednesday.
The university posted its first message on its website warning about an “incident” downtown at 3:30pm, but it wasn’t until 5:50pm when university officials sent out a mass email and web posting to students calling it a “death” investigation.
