While badgers in various forms had been University of Wisconsin mascots for decades, the version dubbed Bucky, sporting a cardinal and white sweater, was first fully realised in 1940.

The 2020 and 2021 inductees were honored on Friday evening. They include former football star Gabe Carimi, hockey stars Meghan Duggan, John Byce, and Blake Geoffrion, basketball stars Jon Leuer, Mike Wilkinson and former Head Coach Bo Ryan, among others.

Badger fans are gearing up for another game day. Camp Randall’s operations staff working out kinks in the fan experience from the home opener. “We introduced digital ticketing and that went as smoothly as we could’ve hoped for,” Lucas said.

Michael Moll, UW’s assistant athletic director for sports medicine, told the Athletic Board that the level of vaccinated individuals in the department mirrors that of the campus population as a whole.

UW is recommending fans wear a mask in outdoor common areas like the seating bowl, concourses and entry gates but isn’t requiring it. Masks are mandatory in Camp Randall’s indoor areas.

Even though the Badgers didn’t get a win Saturday, fans said they were still happy to be at the game and cheer on their team inside Camp Randall for the first time in 651 days.

The UW-Madison Badgers suffered a tough loss to Penn State at the first game day of the season, but there was still reason to celebrate. Saturday’s game marked the first time in nearly two years fans could cheer on the team from inside Camp Randall, after fans were kept out in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

After gaining an entire season’s worth of experience and learning the Wisconsin offense, Graham Mertz’s play at quarterback did not look improved.

After being drafted, the hard-working two-way center had a solid season as a freshman with the University of Wisconsin.

“Loyal’s disappointed that he didn’t have a chance to go through the process,”  Crawford’s attorney, Chris Van Wagner says.  “Even though he had involvement in an altercation, he didn’t have the chance to give his side of the story.”

This past April, UW made Marisa Moseley the eighth coach in Wisconsin women’s basketball history and is counting on the former “Patriot League Coach of the Year” to turn around the UW program like she did at Boston University.

The moves stem from a physical altercation between the two on Aug. 21 at Frederic Ogg Residence Hall, according to a State Journal source not authorized to speak on the record about the incident.

Masks are also strongly encouraged in outdoor public spaces of the stadium, for example, the stands. Staff members are also required to wear masks while working indoors.

Former University of Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez is scheduled to be honored with the Knute Rockne Living Legend Award next month in Chicago.

Big Ten Conference teams in all sports that can’t play a game this season due to COVID-19 will forfeit that game and it will not be rescheduled, the league announced Monday.

“It’s honestly such a great environment,” Badgers fan Bella Daul said. “It’s so much fun to just come in here and watch all the games. It’s so nice to be in a local area not too far away. It’s just so nice to be back again.”

The gates to Camp Randall opened up to fans Saturday morning for the first time in 17 months. With the Badgers are Back (to Back) event, fans got a first look at practice.

For the 2021-22 football season, the first season allowing guests since the COVID-19 pandemic, football tickets sales were digitized. The new system requires students to transfer tickets digitally rather than providing them with paper tickets to sell in person.

Defenseman Peter Tischke (1 year, two-way AHL/ECHL) appeared in 16 games with the Colorado Eagles last season. Overall, he’s appeared in 51 ECHL games (Utah) and 21 AHL games since graduating from the University of Wisconsin in 2019.

Two days after the Journal Sentinel detailed the myriad reasons he was not retained as a men’s basketball assistant at Wisconsin, Alando Tucker used social media to deny he had done anything wrong.

Sixteen University of Wisconsin athletes across eight different events will be competing in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

“I’ve got one of my Badger caps in my bag. It will be coming with me of course. I don’t think, I won’t be wearing it because of course we’ll be wearing the flag caps,” Phoebe Bacon says.

One of the first to take advantage of this breakthrough rule change was Wisconsin Badgers’ Quarterback Graham Mertz. Mertz — a redshirt sophomore who started in seven games for the Badgers last season — revealed his merchandise store and trademark logo on July 1st with the caption, “Thank you for the support. It’s only the beginning!”

The university has withheld names of some candidates either because the applicant requested confidentiality or due to FERPA restrictions. FERPA, or the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, allows protection of student education records.

“We are so happy to be welcoming fans back to football games,” said Brian Lucas, the director of football brand and communications at UW. “We know the players are excited to have the fans back too.”
