Highly touted University of Wisconsin running back Jordan Stevenson did not arrive to Madison with the rest of his recruiting class, but Badgers head coach Paul Chryst still expects to get the freshman on campus before the season begins. All freshmen, except Stevenson, enrolled in summer classes earlier this month and began summer conditioning workouts.

Bo Ryan helps promote Rock & Read Fundraiser in Middleton

Bo Ryan is a man in high demand since leading his Badgers on back to back trips to the Final Four. Ryan loosely estimated he’s signed 10,000 autographs for charities since Wisconsin’s latest trip to the Final Four in April. Sunday Ryan made a stop at the Capital Brewery in Middleton to help promote the 2nd annual Rock & Read Fundraiser to benefit summer reading clubs in the Madison area.

Badger football players volunteer at Goodman Community Center

Badger football players got their workouts in a different way on Wednesday, helping improve play spaces for children. Coach Paul Chryst led team members in putting up a large tarp over a playground at the Goodman Community Center on Madison’s east side. Players also spread mulch on the center’s grounds and organized the center’s food pantry.

Badgers football team sets two more kickoff times

The Badgers football team set kickoff times for two more non-conference games. Wisconsin will meet Miami (Ohio) at 11 a.m. on Sept. 12. That game will be broadcast on either ESPN2 or ESPNU. The Badgers will host Troy on Sept. 19 at 2:30 p.m. That game will air on BTN.

Kaminsky, Martin named UW’s Athletes of the Year

Following an athletic season full of great accomplishments, the University of Wisconsin has named senior basketball player Frank Kaminsky as the school’s Male Athlete of the Year and senior swimmer Ivy Martin as its Female Athlete of the Year.

The Big Ten announced on Wednesday the 28 honorees named Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners for the 2014-15 academic year. These standouts were chosen from a group of more than 350 students honored throughout the academic year who had displayed positive sportsmanship. Joel Rumpel, Hockey, and Aja Van Hout, Swimming, represented the Badgers.

Capitols Johnson announces commitment to UW

Just hours after Capitols head coach and general manager Luke Strand announced his decision to accept the position of associate head coach with the University of Wisconsin men’s hockey program, one of his stars from the Capitols followed suit. Winger Will Johnson announced his commitment to the Badgers on Wednesday afternoon, where he will begin play in the 2015-16 season.

Champions Tour golf event’s boost to Madison economy projected at $10 million to $15 million

The Champions Tour golf tournament, coming to University Ridge Golf Course June 22-26, 2016, is expected to carry with it an economic impact of $10 million to $15 million. The tournament, the American Family Insurance Championship, will include 81 players competing for a share of $2 million in prize money. Three rounds of play broadcast on Golf Channel will follow two days of Pro-Am competition. The tournament is confirmed for 2016, 2017 and 2018 with an option for 2019.

Champions Tour coming to University Ridge next June

The PGA Champions Tour will come to University Ridge Golf Course starting next June. The announcement was made at the golf course Monday morning. Steve Stricker will host the American Family Insurance Classic. Steve Stricker and Jerry Kelly turn 50 in time to play in the tournament in 2017.

Badgers athletics: Increased cost-of-attendance stipends nearly finalized

University of Wisconsin student-athletes who are on full scholarship in 2015-16 are projected to receive among the largest, most varied cost-of-attendance stipends in the nation. The final totals are still being determined for the coming school year, but UW Athletic Department officials expect the range for each case to be between $3,800 and $5,200. That translates to an anticipated annual bill of $1.35 million to $1.5 million for UW Athletics, which has approximately 150 student-athletes on full scholarship and hundreds more on partial tenders.

Tickets, which go on sale June 3, will range from $34 to $55, with part of the proceeds going to the Favre 4 Hope Foundation. Tickets will also be sold in a family four pack for $112, which includes four tickets for seating in the $34 price level. Current UW-Madison students will be able to purchase two tickets at $13 each, also seating in the $34 price level.
