Wisconsin to face Syracuse in 2015 Big Ten/ACC Challenge

With a trip to Madison Square Garden already announced for next season, the Wisconsin men’s basketball team learned Wednesday that it will be making two trips to the state of New York in 2015-16 and travel to face Syracuse on Dec. 2 as part of the 2015 Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

Former Badger and Hobey Baker Memorial Award-winner Blake Geoffrion announced today that ESPN’S John Buccigross will host the second annual Blake Geoffrion Hockey Classic on Friday, June 26 at LaBahn Arena. The event will raise money to benefit the UW Health Burn Center. Tickets for the Blake Geoffrion Hockey Classic go on sale online to the general public Monday, May 25.

Brett Favre to play flag football at Camp Randall Stadium

The former Green Bay Packer and NFL legend will play at Camp Randall Stadium this summer, the day after his induction ceremony into the Packers Hall of Fame … The all-star flag football game will be held July 19 and will feature several former teammates and other ex-NFL players … No ticket or other information is yet available, according to a statement from the UW Department of Athletics.

Lihrman will leave UW with a degree in economics and a certificate in entrepreneurship — graduating on May 16 — and one of the most accomplished resumes in the history of its men’s track and field program. He’s a two-time NCAA champion and national collegiate record-holder in the indoor weight throw as well as owner of the school and Big Ten Conference standard in the outdoor hammer throw.

The American Cancer Society’s 7th annual Coaches vs. Cancer Gala on Saturday brought in more than $1 million to help in the battle against the disease. That tops the record for similar events held around the country of $956,184 that was set here last year, which broke the mark of just over $700,000 that was set the previous year.

Thousands of runners turned out for the annual Crazylegs Classic race in downtown Madison on Saturday. Crazylegs started in 1982, named after Badgers great Elroy “Crazylegs” Hirsch. The event has become one of UW-Madison’s time-honored traditions.

Badgers sports: Barry Alvarez acknowledges apparel contract could change

Multiple sources indicated the UW Athletic Department is gearing up to switch to Under Armour, a Maryland-based company that debuted in 1996 and has become a major international force in the athletic apparel business. Alvarez said he met with Under Armour representatives when the UW men’s basketball team played at Maryland in late February. Alvarez said he also has spoken to representatives from Nike and adidas.

Badgers football: Cornerback Derrick Tindal transported to hospital after practice injury

The last few minutes of spring practice Sunday afternoon was called off after a collision led to the hospitalization of sophomore cornerback Derrick Tindal. Tindal went low to tackle running back Taiwan Deal during the Badgers’ scrimmage and remained on the ground for several minutes. As practice ended, he was evaluated, taken off the field in an ambulance and transported to UW Hospital. A UW official said precautions were taken for a head or neck injury and that Tindal had movement in his extremities before being taken off the field.
