Surveying the trees of Flambeau Forest

I spent a month this summer living in a cabin in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.

Such is the life of a forest scientist. I was there to collect data, going into the forest for 10 hours at a time to identify and tally the diameter and height of thousands of teenage trees.

Ajay Sethi, an associate professor with UW-Madison?s Department of Population Health Sciences, is going to track illness with a smartphone application called OutSmart Flu where sick people report symptoms.

Following the fast track Landgon neighborhood officers frequently ride up the ranks of the Madison Police Department, officer Grant Humerickhouse will hand over patrol of the Greek community and surrounding area after approximately three years to up-and-coming officer Shawn Kelly in order to accept a detective promotion in November, according to MPD Lt. Dave McCaw.

Ada Deer to receive 2013 State Superintendent?s Distinguished Public School Alumna Award

Social worker, human rights activist, and University of Wisconsin-Madison scholar Ada Deer will receive the State Superintendent?s Distinguished Public School Alumni Award on Oct. 8 at the Madison Concourse Hotel. The award will be presented during the reception for Wisconsin Title I Schools of Recognition prior to the noon awards ceremony at the State Capitol.
