NCAA Inclusion Forum Urge Participants to Transform Passion to Action

Noted: Sheridan Blanford, director of inclusion for the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has attended the forum across the years and says that she always leaves inspired.

“I love the Inclusion Forum because it brings a good majority of people who are really invested in this work to one space, and we all are trying to figure out how we can be better in our selective areas and it’s just really great to be around a lot of like-minded, extremely progressive people that really want to see our spaces be better,” she said.   “A lot of these people come and figure out how to take this back to cater it toward their respective jobs, but this is my job. So I get to do it everyday and I always walk away feeling like my tool belt is set and full and ready to go.”

Bucky’s Classroom introduces middle school students to UW-Madison campus

Bucky’s Classroom is designed to increase college opportunities for all students, in part by giving them access to the UW-Madison campus. Presented through the new UW Connects statewide outreach program, the program also establishes a “classroom to campus” connection by having university students teach pre-college preparedness and career exploration at the middle schools through a curriculum developed by the UW-Madison School of Education. The college student ambassadors also develop relationships with the younger students.

Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway appoints Leslie Orrantia as deputy mayor

Since 2016, Orrantia has held the role of director of community relations in the office of the UW-Madison chancellor. She served as the primary contact with county, city and community entities. Orrantia previously worked as the assistant director for the Wisconsin Collaborative Education Research Network within UW’s School of Education.

UW-Madison Arboretum Added To National Register Of Historic Places

The Arboretum joins 70 other properties around UW-Madison’s campus that are already listed as protected historic places. To be eligible, a location must be at least 50 years old and have one of the following: significance in history or architecture, archeological value or association with a significant person.

“I don’t think he can win, but I think he can influence the debate,” said the 18-year-old from Arlington, Virginia.

First-year UW-Madison students Katie Andahl and Ekaterina Kabaee came to take in their first presidential rally as they get prepared to vote in a presidential election for the first time next year.

“I wish I knew more so I could be energized,” Andahl said.
