Underwood, dean of the School of Education of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and 1976 graduate of DePauw University, will discuss “The Privatization of Education” in a March 21 presentation at the Racine Marriott Hotel. The program, which is free and open to the public, is previewed in the Racine Journal Times. “Underwood will explore four challenges of privatization of education in America, and what they mean for the future of public education in this country,” it reports.

UW, Madison College sign reverse transfer agreement

Officials from the University of Wisconsin and Madison Area Technical College will sign a reverse transfer agreement Monday, allowing credits to transfer between both of the higher education institutions. The reverse transfer agreement will go into effect this fall and will permit Madison College students who have earned at least 30 credits to transfer to UW in order to fulfill remaining requirements

UW-Madison has honored 16 of its professors as either outstanding mid-career faculty members or promising young faculty members.The university awarded eight professors with the  Kellett Mid-Career Award and eight with the Romnes Faculty Fellowship, according to news releases Thursday.

UW-Madison economist Donald Nichols dead at 72

Donald Nichols, an economics and public affairs professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an adviser to three state governors and a president, has died at the age of 72.Nichols died of liver cirrhosis complications caused by hepatitis C, according to an obituary in the Wisconsin State Journal.
