Martens, Geraldine “Gerry”

In 1977, she then moved to Madison and worked for UW as an auditor but spent most of her time at UW Physical Plant accounting until her retirement in 1998.

He was born on April 4, 1959 in Omu-Aran, Nigeria, the son of Fako Olaniyan and Bolajoko Aborisade Sajiku. He married Mojisola Adeyemo on August 22, 1988 in Ithaca, NY.

He was the Louise Durham Mead Professor of English and Wole Soyinka Professor of the Humanities at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. In his 18 years at UW–Madison, he served as department chair of African Cultural Studies, as well as a Senior Fellow and Interim Director at the Institute for Research in the Humanities. He was an internationally-recognized scholar of African, African American, and Caribbean literatures, post-colonial studies, genre studies and popular culture studies.

Walker, Richard “Dick”

Walker joined the faculty at the School of Library and Information Science, University of Wisconsin, Madison. He remained in that position until he retired in January 1995.

Skornicka, Joel

Joel returned to Madison in 1960, and over the following 19 years assumed various administrative positions at UW-Madison: program advisor at the Wisconsin Union; student organization advisor at the Dean of Students Office; assistant director at the Academic Computing Center; and assistant chancellor at the Chancellor’s Office.

Leidel, Frederick O.

After World War II, he worked for the University of Wisconsin-Madison as Professor of Engineering Drawing and Descriptive Geometry, and Associate Dean of Engineering-Freshmen. He won the Benjamin Smith Reynolds award and stipend for excellence in teaching in 1979. He retired as Dean Emeritus in 1982.

Former Madison Mayor Joel Skornicka dies at age 82

Skornicka received a bachelor’s degree in political science from UW-Madison in 1959 and a master’s of public policy and administration in 1975. He served as assistant chancellor at the university before his term as mayor from 1979 to 1983.

Berghahn, Klaus L.

Klaus retired in 2007 as the Weinstein-Bascom Professor of German and Jewish studies, having been awarded prizes, including an Integrated Liberal Arts Teaching Award, the Hilldale Award for Excellence in Research and Teaching at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Ritcherson, Lewis H. “Les”

Coach Ritcherson was recruited to become the first Black coach, in any sport, hired by the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the second Black football coach hired by a Big Ten School. He coached from 1966-1972 before being named Assistant to the Chancellor at the UW-Madison.

Hollingsworth, J. Rogers

He joined the faculty of the University of Wisconsin—Madison in 1964 in the Department of History, and in 1985, he was appointed to the Sociology Department.

Barker, John Walton

He was a co-founder of UW Opera Props and between 1981 and 2006 produced 61 issues of “The Prompter,” extended journals for the University opera productions.

Ford, Neil Maurice

Neil accepted an offer from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1966, as an assistant professor. He was promoted to associate and full professor and later served as chair of the Marketing Department at the Wisconsin School of Business for several years. Neil retired as professor emeritus in 1996.

(Stoltman) was a devoted archaeologist who felt privileged to serve as a teacher, researcher, and counselor to those who entered UW-Madison’s Department of Anthropology. His contributions to the field of archaeology were many even though he never used a bullwhip or wore a fedora.

Samson, Professor Harland “Sam”

Harland worked at the UW-Madison from 1963-1993. As a Professor, he focused on continuing and vocational education, educational policy studies, marketing and retail merchandising. Harland served as the Associate Dean at the School of Education and then as the Dean of Summer and Inter-College Programs.

Klein, Ronald (Ron) M.D.

Ron co-directed the University of Wisconsin-Madison Ocular Epidemiology Reading Center, where they were involved with developing and implementing protocols to grade ocular photographs for the severity of age-related macular degeneration and other eye diseases, and data analyses and paper writing from many large ongoing cohort studies and collaborations worldwide. Ron authored or co-authored over 1000 reports in peer-reviewed journals and over 50 book chapters.

Rosemary worked at the University of Wisconsin Union for 32 years, and retired as the Assistant Food Production Manager at the Union.

Rosemary Kuhlmann, Soprano in a TV Breakthrough, Dies at 97

During World War II, Ms. Kuhlmann joined the Waves (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) and was sent to the University of Wisconsin, Madison, to take a three-month course to learn Morse code. Back in New York, she used that skill to communicate with ships at sea. She also had a radio show on WNEW for a time, “Navy Serenade.”

Dallman, John Edwin

John worked as Curator of Exhibits at the State Historical Museum from 1956 to 1959. The remainder of his career was spent at the UW Zoology Dept. as Illustrator and Museum Curator, and later he added paleontologist to his job description.

Pferdehirt, Wayne P.

In 1991, Wayne was recruited to the University of Wisconsin-Madison/UW-Extension to help establish the UW Solid & Hazardous Waste Education Center. In 1998, Wayne became director of the online graduate engineering programs at UW-Madison. He directed the Master of Engineering Management program starting in 1998, one of the nation’s top-ranked online graduate degree programs. Wayne also recently directed the Master of Engineering in Engineering Data Analytics program.

He retired Emeritus from the University after 32 years as a senior lecturer in the Department of Professional Development and Applied Studies, specializing in supervisory strategies and employee retention.
