UW-Madison student killed in crash near Oshkosh
A UW-Madison student was killed late Saturday when his motorcycle crashed on Highway 41 near Oshkosh. Craig T. Houston, 20, of Neenah, was a junior in the College of Letters and Science.

George Lof, a pioneer in solar research, died Oct. 12 at the solar-powered southeast Denver home he had built in 1956. He was 95. In addition to CSU and DU, he taught at the University of Wisconsin.

“Dr. Will” Fey passed away on Tuesday morning, Oct. 13, 2009. Will was the first Ph.D. ever hired by the Department of Psychiatry in the UW Medical School. His intuitive clinical skills earned him a primary role in managing the psychiatry residents and he became the face and the heart of that program for 35 years.

MADISON – Margaret Louise Hopkins Duwe, age 60, died at home in Madison on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009….She attended UW-Madison, where she earned a B.S. in physics in 1970, an M.S. in meteorology in 1975, and pursued doctoral research for several years before deciding that it was more important to spend the time raising her kids. While at the university, she greatly enjoyed her many years as a teaching assistant in both meteorology and Afro-American studies. She conducted hail research in Colorado for her master’s degree and lightning research at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida for her doctoral program.

Madison Woman Dies in Crash
A 1996 Harley Davidson driven by Julia M. Klauer age 44 of Madison, was westbound on County Road T when Klauer crossed the center line of County Rd T while negotiating a curve and struck an oncoming eastbound 2006 GMC pick up driven by Daniel A. Kruser age 47 of Barneveld head on.
Klauer was an employee of the School of Veterinary Medicine.

Coroner Stanley dead of apparent heart attack
Dane County Coroner John Stanley has died. Stanley was found dead at his DeForest home Sunday afternoon from what appeared to be a heart attack.
….He was chairman of the legislative committee for the Wisconsin Coroners & Medical Examiner’s Association and worked hand-in-hand with medical examiners in the pathology department at UW-Madison who conducted autopsies for Stanley’s office.

Coroner John Stanley dies
Dane County Coroner John Stanley has died. The Dane County Sheriffâ??s Office said that Stanley was found at his DeForest home sometime Sunday evening and that the cause of death appears to be medical in nature, said Sgt. Mark Olson. An autopsy is scheduled for later today to determine a cause of death.

Philanthropist, jewelry store owner Irwin Goodman dies at 94
Irwin Goodman, a pillar of the Madison community who along with his brother Robert gave more than $10 million to philanthropic causes, died Sunday at his Madison home. He was 94.
Though he amassed his fortune selling jewelry, Goodman was able to give so much because of his frugal lifestyle, colleagues said.
….The Goodmans have been among the cityâ??s most philanthropic citizens, providing millions of dollars for civic events, UW-Madison athletics, the United Way of Dane County and the Madison Community Foundation.

PLATTEVILLE/ VIROQUA – Laurel A. Skrede, age 54, of Platteville, formerly of Viroqua, died unexpectedly from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Grant County on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009. She attended the University of Platteville where she received a B.S. degree in criminal justice and political science in 1982. Following graduation she served the university campus community through the department of protective services for more than 26 years. Her initial work was as a student security officer. She held progressively more responsible positions and served as chief from 1997 through her retirement at the end of 2008.
