Lately, a nationwide shortage of highly qualified male applicants has admissions directors at private institutions (along with a few from public universities, which face separate legal issues when making exceptions based on race or gender) reaching deeper into their applicant pools to get something close to gender balance on campus. That angers some hard-working, high-achieving high school senior girls who see no reason why boys with lower test scores should get an edge ââ?¬â? just as a generation of attempts to help girls has angered boys.
