Donald S. Ermer died on Thursday morning, Dec. 13, 2007. When he joined the faculty at UW-Madison in 1971, he and his family welcomed the opportunity to return to their alma mater and native state. During the next years, as a member of the ME department at UW-Madison, he established strong and lasting ties with the Far East, especially Singapore. One of his major achievements was helping to establish and promote the State of Wisconsin Forward Award. Don retired in 2002 from the UW ME and IE departments, where he was Proctor and Gamble Professor in total quality.
