George A Talbot III, Madison, born April 2, 1929, died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008. Early in his career, George taught at the University of Wisconsin Law School; he later directed the visual and sound archives at the Wisconsin Historical Society, 1973 to retirement, 1990. He significantly expanded the society’s collection and created two major exhibitions, “At Home,” using photos to show how Americans led their lives, and “Six Generations Here,” portraying a German-American Wisconsin farm family. After retirement, he was on the Board of Friends of the Wisconsin Historical Society and directed the Frank Lloyd Wright oral history project (1990-95).
