George K. Steil, Sr., age 84, of Janesville, died on Sunday, March 29, 2009. He was named as Lecturer by the University of Wisconsin in 1974, and received the University of Wisconsin Law School Alumni Distinguished Service Award in 1991, which is the highest award given to a faculty member or a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School. He was appointed by Governor Tommy Thompson to the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents from 1990 to 1997, where he served as President from 1992 to 1994, Chairperson of the University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation, the clinical practice group of the UW Medical School from 1995 to 1999, and member of the Board of Directors of the University of Wisconsin Hospital Authority from 1995 to 2004.
