Along the way he received a Ph. D in Sociology and later a Masters of Social Work, both from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and was able to apply his knowledge and experience to administrative positions of increased responsibility throughout his career. He also was an adjunct professor for many years at the University of Wisconsin in the Department of Sociology focusing on juvenile delinquency and criminology
