Space Place to get more space in new place

For years, Madison residents and schoolchildren have had a unique place from which to study the stars and the planets and all the other wonders of the heavens.

It’s called Space Place and it is operated as the outreach and public education arm of the UW-Madison Department of Astronomy. Oddly enough, the popular program has been housed in the most earthbound of places — a converted Ponderosa steak house at 1605 S. Park St.

There has always been the lingering smell of grease about the place, even when everyone’s attention might be focused on the most sublime of astronomical marvels.
