(MADISON) The Madison Area Technical College and the University of Wisconsin-Madison have launched a joint biodiesel project. The goal is to train students to develop new blends of vegetable-based diesel fuel and test their effectiveness in different kinds of engines.
Only a handful of colleges across the country offer students the chance to make and test their own biodiesel. The new portable 50 gallon reactor is the first of its kind in Wisconsin. It was designed and built at the university but it will be used at MATC. MATC President Bettsey Barhorst says the recent hike in fuel prices helped spur the two schools to launch the project.
