In Haiti, after the quake, Rigan Louis was the stoic young nurse who could get the Léogâne field hospitalâ??s balky generator going again, who could find a visiting surgeon a saw and rasp in the rubble, and who had the courage and skill to amputate a little girlâ??s infected hand. But on one recent morning, Louis sits in blue scrubs in the doctorâ??s lounge at Meriter Hospital, fumbling with a milk carton. He canâ??t figure out how to open it. Milk comes in cans in Haiti. His friend, Dr. Craig Dopf, the genial UW Health orthopedic surgeon hosting and training him, is gulping down chicken soup and briefing Louis on their next patient.
