U.S. opens its doors to Iraqi students

In the late 1940s, Iraq had as many as 40 students enrolled at the University of California-Berkeley, and Nazik al-Malaika ?an Iraqi poet who is considered one of the Arab world?s most-renowned contemporary artists ? earned her master?s degree in comparative literature at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1959.
