Our editorial board met UW-Madison’s new chancellor, “Biddy” Martin, last week for the first time and came away feeling that the university is in good hands.
There’s no question that Martin is moving carefully during these first weeks of her tenure. She’s not taking sides in ex-Chancellor John Wiley’s feud with some legislators; she claims to have had an enjoyable visit with the Legislature’s most vocal UW basher, Rep. Steve Nass; and she’s still not ready to weigh in on the 18-versus-21 drinking age controversy.
