Several weeks ago the first of the millions and millions of baby boomers signed up for Social Security. It was big news across the country because it signaled the start of what will be a tremendous strain on the existing system.
With the baby boomers now retiring at an ever accelerating pace, concerns over funding the program well into the future are certainly going to intensify.
But, we’ll leave that debate for another time. Right now we want to go back to a topic we’ve covered several times in this column over the years and that is about the â??Father of Social Securityâ? who just happens to be the late Edwin E. Witte, a native of Watertown.
