Lampert Smith: Simpler times weren’t as puzzling

The season of renewal in a college town comes now, as the leaves are falling.

Capistrano has its swallows; the Wolf River has its sturgeon.

And we here in Madison have a new crop of students taking root in our town.

Yes, we like to complain about the sudden crowding of our favorite haunts and the disappearance of our parking spaces, but you need only saunter down State Street to feel the energy they’ve brought to Madison. And even though they’re young, beautiful and smart, the great thing about students is that you can still make fun of them.
