Lampert Smith: Summer just isn’t summer without faculty softball

It’s been two long summers without the crack of a bat ringing out over Lake Mendota, accompanied by cheers as the literary English team scored on their rivals from history.
The UW-Madison faculty-staff softball league was a summer tradition for nearly 40 years, until the construction of the Madison Gas & Electric congeneration plant halted play in 2004.
