Speaker focuses on challenges of journalism

Journalism and the print media have been under scrutiny, and competition from blogs and challenges to newspapers’ credibility threaten to undermine the future of the profession, said John Geddes, managing editor of The New York Times.

But journalism has withstood many challenges to its authority, thanks to the virtues and experiences provided to generations of UW-Madison School of Journalism graduates since its founding 100 years ago, he told a crowd of several hundred alumni, whose memories of the journalism school on its centennial span some 70 years.
