Two UW horses put down after contracting viral infection (AP)

MADISON, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Madison riding club has quarantined one of its barns after two horses got sick with a virus.

Vets euthanized the two horses after they showed symptoms of a neurological disease known as equine herpes virus-1.

Ten other horses in the barn at the Hoofer Equestrian Center near Belleville have developed fevers in the last few weeks, said Benjamin Darien, head of large animal internal medicine at the UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine
