As for Trump’s rhetoric about “executing” babies, it and the bills to which it referred are meant to evoke a “visceral reaction,” according to Jenny Higgins, a professor in Gender and Women’s Studies and in Obstetrics and Gynecology at UW-Madison. “In addition to these claims being false, about doctors executing newborns, I would just emphasize that these bills just distract us” from a broader debate about abortion, contraception and related issues, Higgins said.

Presented through the new UW Connects statewide outreach program, the program also establishes a “classroom to campus” connection by having university students teach pre-college preparedness and career exploration at the middle schools through a curriculum developed by the UW-Madison School of Education. Jack Pawlik, 22, who has seen what a mobile app has done for coffee behemoth Starbucks, has created his own app that allows users to purchase coffee with their smart phones — but not from just one shop. The Drip app, created by Pawlik and Avery Durant, a 20-year-old developer in Boston, allows customers to order before they arrive and accrue loyalty points collectively from the shops and redeem the points at any of the shops on the app.

After bottoming out in 2017-18, crowd size rebounds slightly for Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball home games

Several initiatives around wasted food in the Madison/Dane County area have seen recent progress. Last fall, a trio of University of Wisconsin-Madison undergrads and a communications coordinator at FairShare CSA Coalition created a food waste recovery guide on behalf of the city and county, now available as a spiral-bound print copy and online at UW-Extension. Magnets that say “Got food waste?” with a picture of an apple core include a short link to the guide.
