Almost 20 years ago, a green, shiny beetle arrived in southern Wisconsin and started eating ash trees to death.
Originally from Asia and known as the emerald ash borer, the bug is smaller than a dime and quickly spread like wildfire, largely fueled by firewood and tree nursery transports.
