Mapping tells stories—stories that share, challenge, and recover knowledge and narratives. The story of this map began in the fall of 2023, when I (Keeler), a scholar of Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS), approached Gareth Baldrica-Franklin, a Ph.D. candidate in Geography with expertise in cartography, to make an interactive map (featured below) to supplement my book project on American Indians and the Homestead Act.
