UW Health physician reflects on how volunteering after 9/11 led her to medicine

A UW Health doctor is reflecting on how the events of 9/11 shaped her life’s purpose.

Dr. Lisa Arkin was working in television in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001.

In the days following the attacks, she volunteered overnight at a nearby trauma center, helping families search for loved ones.

That experience inspired her to leave her career and go to medical school.
